Oakville at a Glance
The lakeside community of Oakville lies 40 km west of Toronto,
with the city of Mississauga
separating the two. This lively suburb promotes its ability to provide large city
services without losing the small town atmosphere. Numerous cultural venues exist
in the town, the premier being the Oakville
Centre where some 260 music, drama, or variety performances are staged each
year. There is a fine selection of galleries, a few museums and several festivals,
including the three-day Oakville
Waterfront Festival in June. There are two natural harbours that offer sail
and powerboat docking privileges for visitors, as well as several private boating
clubs for those wishing permanent moorage. And for those who favour green over
blue, there are seven golf courses. Glen
Abbey Golf Course is especially notable as it has played host to the Canadian
Open many times. An assortment of restaurants, bars, and shopping establishments
exist, but there is also green spaces for those wishing to stretch out.
